LGBT Drop In

LGBT Take Pride
As from Wednesday 8th November 2017, we will be holding an LGBT Drop In. After research we have established that there is very little or no support for LBGT young people in Derwentside. We are hoping that young people will attend. This Drop In will be young people led where staff will listen to their needs and respond accordingly. Take Pride

The workers after a successful day

The workers after a successful day

Once again our Annual Christmas party was a great success; think we can say it was our best yet. It was organised by a group of young people with planning, shopping, preparing and serving a Christmas meal for a group of 42 senior citizens from the Derwentside area.

The party was well attended by our groups that have now attended for several years, Leadgate Carers, Rosemount Care Home, Jubilee Court in addition to guests from Age UK County Durham.

Debbie, Youth Worker from Durham City Centre Detached Youth Project also came along with two of her young people to work in partnership with the group.

The young people took part in preparing a turkey dinner followed by desert, serving and chatting to the guests throughout.  Afterwards they had a game of prize Bingo, which went down very well especially our entertaining “bingo caller”.  Further entertainment was supplied by the very talented Consett school choir who once again gave a brilliant performance.

The intergenerational activity was aimed at building bridges, improving communications between generations, breaking down barriers and prejudices from both sides.  The event highlights that everyone can enjoy themselves together regardless of age or background.  It also gives guest the opportunity to interact with others from different areas through social gathering.

Our thanks go to The Joy Foundation for sponsoring the event, Morrison`s Consett for their gift voucher, Consett School Choir, St. Bede’s School for allowing pupils to take part and of course all our guests and young people who helped make the event a great success.

New Community Mini Bus arrived

New Mini Bus 2016 P1
Consett Churches Detached Youth Project has partnered up with Durham County Council and Derwent Valley Partnership to provide a new Community Transport minibus, open for hire by any group in the area.

Jackie Forbes, CCDYP’s Manager, said, “This new bus is a wonderful opportunity, but if the Derwent Valley Area is to get best use from it we need more volunteers to drive for the community groups, and we’d also love to find someone who will help the lead the Community Transport side of our project.” Photos and more will following shortly!

We were thrilled to be invited to the High Sheriff Awards in Durham Castle last week, organised by County Durham Foundation, sponsored by Sir James Knott Trust. The castle was a great setting with a lovely buffet lunch attended by local Mayors and representatives from throughout County Durham. The day was made even better when our Project was awarded joint first place. Two of our young people Toni Lovett and Olivia Lovett went up to receive the award together with a cheque for £2500.
A big thank you to County Durham Foundation and The Sir James Knott Trust.
The same morning we also received a cheque from the Rothley Trust who have given us so much support over the years I have been with the Project. Thank you so much.
Both awards will go a long way to the sustainability of our Project and enable us to continue working with young people in Derwentside
